Cement!! We have Cement!!! Chpt #10

We last left you will a giant hole in the ground and since then things have progressed AND got more expensive (our fault - more tweaks).

We had heard rumors for Big and Little J (that live in Columbus and are keeping track of things) that the foundation had been poured and there was a big crane.

Well - things were really going now that there was a big crane. We drove out to the site on the weekend and there was no big crane but a normal sized backhoe! Too bad - I would have liked to see a crane.

Anyway we ooo'd and aaaa'd over how wonderful cement was and tried to figure out what everything was. The confusing thing was that where I assumed the floor would be on top of the foundation, where I was standing, at waist level.

Later I learned that the entire site was going to be raised about 3 feet or so. Then there was this little room with no door!! AHHH! That was what the porch would sit on. They would fill that in with sand (dirt tends to compact). Who knew!!!

Here is a shot of DJ playing Vanna White. I'd like an "F" please? I'd like to guess? "Foundation"!! applause applause!

And here is our builder (aka General Contractor) Kevin explaining . . . . . something. HEY! I don’t want to get all gushy but this guy is awesome at easing stress and explaining everything. From what I hear there are many builders out there that build houses but are not so great with their bed side manner. I feel he actually cares about what he is building and his customer's. Five stars (out of five) dude!!

If you are building in the Southern Wisconsin area look him up! Ambiance Homes 608.225.4594.

Then - there were MORE decisions. This time brick decisions.

One thing I have learned from this process is that while a person can be prepared with answers (such as the style of brick) there is always something else that will turn your head. Just when you think you have a clue you see something else and start rethinking.

We decided to go with this style of brick for the front of the house. We would LIKE THAT house but . . . .we'll settle for the brick!

After THAT decision we drove out to the site and Kevin answered questions and I snapped the above photos and then I brought up. THE DECK!!

My feeling was that a 12x12 foot deck is nice but if you put one of those round tables with the big Umbrellas it leaves little room for anything else. THUS - we asked about bigger decks. Kevin said that instead of a window in the master Bedroom he could put in a sliding door for a little more and THEN we could wrap the deck around so we would have a walk out deck from our bedroom.

Since we can not afford a finished basement we can at least have a big deck. We did not want the deck to go in front of the main living room window to block the view so . . . . . . we are getting a BIG deck!

WHEW!!! Now all we have to do is sell OUR house. We're close - perhaps a week away from putting it on the market. Pray for us!! LOL

Are you going to have him pour a cement slab under the deck so you have another patio out from your basement? That would be cool. Dr. Mike has a block patio out from the basement that goes under the deck and also extends out past it and has a built in fire pit there. Very cool.
Also, the phone number next to Ambiance Homes can only be seen by highlighting the text. Accidently discovered that.

Good luck on selling your home. I hope your market is better than in Michigan. We took over a year to sell our house and had to lower price quite a bit to do that.

Good Luck!!

Lookin' good!

Do you guys plan on finishing the basement in the future? We probably can't afford to do ours right away either, but hopefully will a few years down the line.

Yea - in the future. Not sure WHEN but that is a "vision".

Just as you - a few years down the road once we get the budget back under control!
